My previous thoughts on Michael Vick

With the Bar exam less than a week away, I do not have the time to say all that I want to on this matter. So I am going to cheat and remind you all of my statements back on June 6th. This will also provide a new thread so we can debate the implications of this recent indictment.

On June 6, 2007, I said....
I know this dog-fighting issue will plague Vick all season. Most recent reports indicate that there is sufficient evidence to indict Vick on his illegal dog-fighting ring. I believe that even if found guilty he would not receive jail time, and any jail time he did receive would not be a substantial amount. Best case scenario for Vick is that the Virginia DA would hurry up and decide if he is going to press charges, and if so, sooner is better than later. The sooner they press charges, the sooner Vick can plead out, accept probation, and move on with his life. The longer they drag this out, the greater the chance it will carry into the NFL season. Then Vick will be forced to defend the case while trying to keep his job as the starting QB of the Falcons. Once charges are filed, Vick is entitled to a speedy trial. Not a right he will welcome if charges are filed in August. So Vick could spend the beginning of the 2007-08 season dealing with his legal troubles. Moreover, unlike with Pacman, Goodell will come out and say he will wait for the legal system to run its course, before he makes a decision on Vick (no rationale to explain the hypocrisy in that decision... but watch, it WILL happen). So in November, when Vick finally wraps up his case, Goodell will suspend him for two games. By that time, it will probably be irrelevant, because with the distraction all season long, and the competitive NFC south, the Falcons will probably be out of playoff contention anyways.

And I'll remind you of my thoughts I posted on May 28...that's right Dave...preempted you again.

"4. I know Atlanta Falcon Michael Vick should be harshly punished for his involvement with the illegal dog-fighting world. The NFL should suspend him for at least one season, and the Falcons would do well to start building for life after Vick (assuming there will ever be life in that organization again). This isn’t a doping allegation that could be ducked by a simple denial because the prosecution lacks the necessary evidence. It clearly is not a widespread problem. Vick probably won’t get immunity in exchange for naming names. There may be some who have no objection to dog-fighting (I’m guessing Raider fans), but if the evidence keeps pouring in like it has, I see no other choice than to make an example of Vick. While they’re at it, the NFL should suspend Marcus Vick too, just to avoid the media spectacle that will invariably follow his next round of shenanigans."

3. Favre for Vick only works because they're both finished. Favre is done athletically and Vick is done legally (at least for this year). Ron Mexico will be charged for staging dog fights (a felony) and suspended the entire year.

He's a ghetto thug bastard who was invloved in ghetto thug bastard activities that are beyond reprehensible or defensible, and whatever punishment from either the NFL or the legal system is not enough.

Goodell will suspend Vick prior to the season. He may not do it during the preseason, but he will have to sit out much of the regular season. I think Goodell is the real deal on this issue and he won't sit back and let it play out in court. The evidence is at least plausible if not totally convincing.

I'll say this much, its almost as lame as it is gruelsome. I mean, dogfighting? Whats so cool about it anyway? I've seen clips before and I can't find one thing about it being remotely entertaining. Maybe Vick and his boys were stoned at the time or something.

Vick now "more than likely" faces state felony charges in addition to the federal ones. I hope that somehow Vick ends up getting thrwon in a dogfighting pit and torn apart by those dogs. What a pathetic, reprehensible, and disgusting excuse for a human being, let alone a QB. To paraphrase what one commenter likes to say..."Fuck TO and fuck Vick"

A little boy once asked Bebo, "Bebo, what would you do if you were the Chargers? Take Michael Vick or Drew Brees and LaDanian Tomlinson?"

Bebo said, without hesitation, "Brees and Tomlinson, most definitely."

The boy disagreed.

What was that boy's name, you ask. It was Victor "Mr. Clutch" Salcido.

The same Victor that said Randy Moss would be the MVP two years ago? The same Victor that's forever in love with Kobe (and would probably take Kobe over Durant/Green or Nash/Stoudamire). The same Victor that predicted the Vatican would someday prove the Earth is, in fact, flat?

As long as everyone is posting their I-told-you-so's, did everyone see that Daunte met with the Bucs the other day? Ha.. Gruden's appetite for QB's can not be sated! Hey Dave, you need to post those other topics so that everyone can see what else I'm right about!

David said...

Yes B-Golden... you did call the Culpepper thing. Even I didn't see that one coming! I'll post them soon. The bar exam is next week.

Boom!

From Espn.com:
Michael Vick was ordered by commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday to stay away from the Atlanta Falcons' training camp until the league reviews the dogfighting charges against him.

"While it is for the criminal justice system to determine your guilt or innocence, it is my responsibility as commissioner of the National Football League to determine whether your conduct, even if not criminal, nonetheless violated league policies, including the Personal Conduct Policy," Goodell said in a letter to the quarterback.

Corey said...

I'm still waiting for someone to tell Marcus Vick not to show up for training camp.

Brad said...

You it's bad when Marcus is considered the good Vick brother

I wonder if Virginia Tech is gonna remove all the Vick memorabilia from their buildings.

GOOD LUCK ON THE BAR, DAVE!!!!!

Okay, honeymoon's over Dave.

Brad said...

Next topic - Who is worse Vick or Dave's lazy ass?

Hey Corey, did you catch any of that Live Earth concert? Just sped through it on the DVR. Did you know John Locke is the lead singer of Genesis?! Crazy. Seriously, Phil Collins is a dead-ringer for him now. Funny to think that when Phil Collins was huge, Locke was murdering families in the Stepfather movies.... does anyone know what I'm talking about, or am I THAT old?.. sigh

Brad said...

Ok, no idea what Golden is talking about...he is old...however, his senile self may have hit the Culpepper nail on the head. From today's ESPN.com Rumor Central Section
"It's starting to look like Tampa Bay is the best option for Culpepper, writes John Clayton.
Jacksonville dropped out because of Culpepper's insistence on a one-year deal. The Jaguars were at one point willing to give him a three-year deal when they were talking trade with the Dolphins. Now, the Jaguars are out. The Falcons are out. With Jake Plummer not showing up, Tampa Bay becomes an interesting possibility.

The Ravens and Rams could also be options."

Corey said...

I didn't catch Live Earth, but you're right Golden, I can't think of many better stunt doubles for Phil Collins. And by stunt double I mean a guy who stands in for him doing a really nasty drum-fill. Whooeee! Actually, I think John Locke is right-handed, and PC is left, so maybe it wouldn't work.

Can't say I've seen the Stepfather movies, though it's looking more likely that I will before Dave ever writes a new blog.

Is anyone else hoping that Joey "Duck Messiah" Harrington is a hit in Atlanta so that when Vick gets out of prison he finds his old starting job was lost to a guy with 0, a whopping 0, career rushing TDs?

bgolden said...

Here's that Genesis performance on YouTube if you wanna see it. But it doesn't show the part where PC wheeled out in a wheelchair and then miraculously stood up before singing.

Okay, the fact that this comment log has regressed into a Genesis revival is further evidence we need a new topic. Dave where you at??!!

Corey said...

How about...What would you do if you caught Bonds' #756? Keep it? Sell it? Give it back? Hold it for ransom until baseball cleans up?

Ricardo said...

I'd sharpie half of it to look like a soccer ball, and write on the other half: "Any pastime that tolerates drug use doesn't deserve fans." Then I'd Ebay it, all proceeds going to the US Soccer Foundation.
